Inspired by the retro look ofthe 70s, Ashish played up the theme to the T. The show titled ‘CheckMate’, the show saw models walking the ramp in straight check pants, checkcoats, paired with a neat colourful bow, even a tie at some places, leathershoes and chappals and with neatly gelled hair. The pencil thin moustache, thatwas one common thing among all models, did bring the desired effect and made forthe talking point too!
And with Ashish’s childhood friend Robert Vadra sporting a similar kind, the buzz was bound to happen. So when FDCI president Sunil Sethi poked Ashish jokingly with ‘Is Mr Vadra your muse for the show, given the same kind of moustache?’ Ashish replied, “Both me and Robert are from the early 70s and hence the look he sports and the one I had on the ramp have a semblance.”
But withmen’s fashion having evolved so much, picking up a retro theme, ain’t it a misfit, we asked? “Not actually. ’Coz even retro isa fashion, and a tough one at that! I didn’t want to do somethingthat’s easy... So while this collection is a reflection of simpler times, the effort put in it was just double. It’s actually an effort to reinventthe 1970 fashion,” said Soni.
So how would he define the manwalking on the ramp, and Soni said, “A simple, decent guy, whom girlswould want to take to take to their moms. The perfect marriage materialboy!”
Talking about the fabrics, Soni said, “Well-placedprints, heavy use of checks, gabardine, denim and poplin for fresh cotton weresome of the fabrics used. More than the fabric, my USP is tailoring. And hencethe kind of cuts you saw on the ramp – one for the fashion forwardpeople!”
In colours, blues, peach, browns, greys, dull maroonsremained the prominent ones.
